Overview
Mindfulness means noticing what is happening right now—inside and around you— with kindness. These simple ideas can be tried at home or school. Every child is different—take what helps and leave the rest.
Try It Now
- Mindful minute: feel your feet on the floor, notice your breath, and listen for three sounds.
- Pebble practice: hold a small object and describe it using all five senses.
- Noticing walk: walk slowly for five minutes, counting steps up to 10 and back down.
Talk Starters
- “What do you notice in your body right now? Where do you feel calm or tight?”
- “Which small practice helps a little when you’re stressed?”
- “Who could we ask for support if we need more help?”
Mindfulness in Everyday Moments
Mindfulness is not about making thoughts disappear. It is practising how to notice and gently return attention.
Senses
Notice one color, one sound, and one texture while eating, drawing, or waiting.
Movement
Stretch slowly or walk while noticing feet touching the floor and air moving in and out.
Kindness
When the mind wanders, say: “That is okay; I can come back now.”
